Like anything in life, there are things about carpet cleaning that people tend to take for granted. They assume they know something because it seems like common knowledge. They might not know where they picked up the bit of information, but they think they know it to be true. That goes for carpet cleaning as well.
There a couple of carpet cleaning myths that you need to know about to make sure you keep your carpets looking their best for as long as possible.
1. A carpet deodorizer is all I need – If you’re like a lot of people, you have seen a product in the store that suggests all you need to do is sprinkle it on your carpet and vacuum it up, and your carpet will be in great shape.
The truth is, the talcum powder that is part of this type of product is impossible to remove completely from your carpet. That means each time you use it, you leave some behind. Because it doesn’t dissolve in water, when you do have your carpet cleaned, you will end up with white stains on your carpet.
2. Your carpet is new, so you don’t need it cleaned – If it has only been a year or so since you purchased your carpet, you may assume you don’t need to have your carpet cleaned, but you’d be wrong. In fact, you might be waiting until your carpet looks dirty to have it cleaned, but by then it is too late.
Once there are small particles of dirt in your carpet when you walk on it, these particles get pushed into the protective fibers of your carpet which wear them down. Over time, this dirt will cause your carpet fibers to break down completely. Then cleaning your carpet will have little effect.

The entire experience was wonderful,Dustin was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the process and service. I had a number of questions that were answered without hesitation. I was very pleased with his customer service and will definitely contact them again in the future.
Great article! We find that people who get new carpet rarely think they need their carpet cleaned because it is new. Thanks for sharing this!
Wow, these are two myths I hear all the time! I’m just starting my carpet cleaning business up in the Seattle area and am always looking for ways to help educate my clients on the reasons to clean their carpets other than just visible soiling. I have seen so many people try the carpet deodorizer only to be left with a lingering smell that returns shortly after. I also wonder exactly how much of that stuff they are actually able to get up with a vacuum.
Definitely will tell my clients about these myths…
Thanks for posting this and I will be following your site from now on for more of these gems I can use for client education.

I had no idea talcum powder can cause white stains on my carpets. I’ll definitely have to pass this helpful information along to my customers.
We just opened our new carpet cleaning company and came across this article. This was a good read, I know writing about carpet cleaning isn’t the most exciting topic to write about. You kept it entertaining with these two myths, a lot of people do think that because their carpet is new they can get away with not cleaning it. That is far from the truth.
Thanks again for writing this and keep up the good work.
That makes so much sense.. the white spots on my carpet. I was renting out one of my rooms out to a friend. She used that powder only in her room, after she left I had my carpets cleaned, and there are white spots all over. Ugh! Great post!
