You love your pets. In fact, they’re part of the family. However, just like the rest of the family, they can make messes on your upholstery. When it does happen there are ways to help clean up the mess.
For Wet Stains
If your pet has urinated on your furniture, you’ll want to clean it up as soon as possible. Once it has dried, it becomes much more difficult. The first thing you’ll want to do is soak up the urine with paper towels. This is one time you want to use a pretty thick layer of towels.
If you can reach the underside of the stain, such as a stain on a sofa cushion, go ahead and place newspapers under it. You’ll then want to stand on the cushion to force any additional wetness into the newspaper. Continue to do this until all the liquid is gone.
Once you have removed as much urine as possible, clean the area with cool water. Then repeat the above process to remove any excess water. In this case, it is best to not use chemical cleaners.
For Dried Stains
If a pet stain has already dried on your upholstery, it will be much more difficult to clean. First off, you’ll need to rent a wet vac or extractor. They work by forcing clean water into and through your upholstery or carpet and then removing the dirty water.
Once again, using plain water tends to work best. Once the area is completely clean, you can then use an odor neutralizer that is made for pet odors.
If the stain has seeped into the padding of your carpet or upholstery, then it is very difficult if not impossible to clean. It may need to be replaced.
