You love your pets and consider them a part of your family, but there is no doubt that they can have accidents on your carpets leading to stains and odors. That’s why if you do have cats and dogs in your home it is important to know how to clean pet stains.
If you find a pet stain from urine that is still fresh, meaning wet, it is easier to clean up right then instead of waiting until later. You will want to start by soaking up as much of the urine as you can. Plan to use paper towels and newspapers to do so.
Layer the area with paper towels and then newspapers. Go ahead and stand on them to help force the urine into the layers. Plan to stand there for about a minute. Repeat this process with clean paper towels and newspapers until the area is almost completely dry.
Then you will want to rinse the spot using cool water. When finished, go ahead and blot the area to remove the water.
If you find a stain that has already dried, it is more difficult to clean the area. Be careful not to use chemical cleaners or a steam cleaner. The heat from the cleaner will set the stain and odor into your carpet.
You will want to try and clean the area with water. It should help loosen the urine as much as possible. Then you can use a pet order neutralizer. Keep in mind, if you have used chemicals on the area, the neutralizer will not work. Often, you will need a professional to remove the stain as it has dried into the padding of the carpet.
